Can anyone suggest a good baby thermometer?

We have bought like 10 in the past 18 months and I can’t get a good reading out of any of them.

I have the cheap-o $5 Kroger brand digital from the grocery store and it is awesome. The readings are clear, quick and accurate. I have been using it on my son for 2 years to take his temperature rectally as that is the way that our doctor’s office likes it to be taken. I do have a digital ear thermometer, but it really sucks and I wouldn’t trust it.

What to tie a baby gift basket with?

I’m making a basket for my sister-in-law’s baby boy with medicines, creams, thermometer, mittens, etc…I need something cute (and kind of cheap since I already spent more than hubby wanted me to lol) to tie the top of the shrink wrap with to put on the ribbon (like a rattle or teether or something) so that it looks more decorated. Any ideas of what to use? Thanks!

go to a bead store buy a thin elastic string and beads that form the baby’s name and a few more blank color beads to make it just big enough for a tiny baby’s wrist, and make it a little name bracelet! band it around the shrink wrap.

What is the best, safest and most accurate thermometer to use on a baby?

I know there are a bunch of thermometers on the market, my wife and I are currently using a stick thermometer to measure our infants temperature, she has fevers quite often these days, mainly due to teething, and we find it really difficult to get an accurate measurement. Any other parents have any suggestions?

A baby ear thermometer is by far the most gently and accurate way to take a child’s temperature. While I am not a doctor, I’d stay away from glass thermometers and rectal temperature readings, especially on a child that moves around a lot.

While Temporal scanners are wonderful, they are on the expensive side. I highly recommend using a Infra-Red baby ear thermometer. They take the temperature in under 2 seconds, and before the child has realized you are trying to do something, you have an accurate reading taking using an infra-red bean against the inner ear.

The built in history on most baby ear thermometers is also useful when monitoring a child’s fever.

Take care of that little bundle.

Barbara
